The three-year transition period is coming to an end on 10 November 2026. Until this date, both the previous AS/NZS 4308:2008 standard and the new 2023 standard remain valid. However, organisations should now be preparing to transition to the new standard and update their workplace drug-testing processes.

10 November 2026 – the 2008 standard will be withdrawn following the transition period.
What should you do?
Companies, testing providers and workplace drug-testing personnel should obtain a copy of AS/NZS 4308:2023 and review their current processes, including:
- Workplace drug and alcohol testing policies
- Chain-of-custody documentation
- Testing equipment and devices
- Screening cut-off levels
- Specimen collection procedures
- Overall testing processes and practices
