Patient Transport Services
Promed Patient Transport Services (PTS) began in 2022 as a small contract with the South Canterbury District Health Board (SCDHB), transporting post-operative patients from Bidwill Hospital in Timaru.
Since then, we have expanded to provide comprehensive patient transport services, including transfers:
- Hospital to hospital (Timaru, Christchurch, Dunedin)
- Hospitals to rest homes, hospices, and private residences
- Return trips from these destinations to hospitals
Our Services
- South Canterbury: 24/7 transport by ambulance, wheelchair-accessible vehicle, or car. Routes include Timaru to Christchurch, Dunedin, and Twizel.
- Southland: Ambulance transport only, Monday to Friday, 08:00–20:00, covering Invercargill, Dunedin, Te Anau, and Central Otago.
Family members are welcome to travel with patients in all vehicles. Ambulances are staffed by a driver and a Care Attendant dedicated to patient care. When a hospital nurse escort is present, they assist the patient. Wheelchair and car services are typically driver-only, but a Care Attendant can be arranged upon request.
We are committed to expanding into other regions of New Zealand. As a non-government-funded provider, our services operate on a user-pays basis.
